Lying on a pivotal Roman intersection near the Tyne crossing, Corbridge played a vital role in every Roman campaign in northern Britain before becoming a busy garrison town. The extensively excavated remains include the best preserved granaries in Britain as well as the foundations of workshops, temples, houses and an elaborate fountain. The museum contains a rich selection of finds from the whole area, including the Corbridge Lion, a remarkable sculpted fountainhead.
