The Kielder Water Birds of Prey Centre based at Leaplish Waterside Park cares for a whole host of birds including owls, falcons and vultures as well as two fallow deer, two wallabies, guinea pigs and red squirrels.
It focuses on conservation but also aims to educate and offer a ‘hands on’ experience through daily flying demonstrations, hunting days, hawk walks, falconry courses and school visits.
Two of the largest flying birds in the world live at the Centre, a pair of Great White Pelicans called Elisabeth and Giff. Great White Pelicans have never before seen in the North East and visitors have the chance to feed the tame birds as well as learn more about the fascinating creatures.
Other new additions to the Kielder Bird of Prey Centre family include Sima, a White Tailed Sea Eagle (the largest eagle in England and once extinct in the country) and Mandy, an African Marabou stork.
