The railway is an extension of the world-famous Stockton and Darlington line following the River Wear into the North Pennines. Re-opened in July 2004 the Weardale Railway provides a 5.25 mile ride between Wolsingham, the gateway to the dale, via Frosterley to the historic market town of Stanhope in beautiful Weardale.

Subject to availability you will be steam hauled in 1950's coaches at a leisurely pace beside the river with magnificent views of the dale, part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

2009 events are Mother's Day March 22nd, Easter Weekend Apr 10-13th, Easter Sunday Classic Car Rally Apr 12th, Teddy Bears Picnic May 24th, Father's Day & Big Boys Toys Jun 21st, Classic Car Rally July 12th, Morris Minor Rally and Charity Day Aug 23rd, War on the Line Sept 19-20th, Santa Specials and Mince Pie Specials throughout Dec.

The railway is available for hire, single carriage or whole train, steam (when available), stations etc. Details on application. Special events catered for.
