Madhyamaka Centre is a thriving Buddhist meditation centre situated in the York area just outside the town of Pocklington, in the north of England. Founded in 1983 by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, it is one of the largest and most well established Buddhist Centres in the UK. Based in a stunning Georgian mansion and set amongst the rolling countryside of the Yorkshire Wolds, the centre provides meditation teachings, meditation courses and meditation retreats to people from all walks of life. The centre is an ideal place to visit if you would like to learn to meditate. We offer weekly evening meditation classes, both here and in local towns and cities, where beginners to the subject as well as those with some experience can learn meditation techniques. These techniques are practical and particularly suitable for those with busy lifestyles. We also offer introductory day courses, relaxing Weekend Meditation Retreats and longer in depth courses, all of which offer insights into how to develop meditation practice.

There are opportunities to sample life in a buddhist community by coming on a weeklong working visit. For school and other community groups we offer visits to the centre including meditation tutorials and tours. The centre is open to the public for most of the year. Please contact us if you would like a free tour of the house and grounds.
