Tour of Medieval planned market town with an interesting history from a drovers' town to a notorious 'pocket' borough with links to Clive of India. Queen Elizabeth I granted it a local government charter in 1563 and the town hasretained its mayor and council although the borough, the smallest one in England, was abolished in 1967. The buildings on the steep, south west facing hill, range from Medieval to Georgian with the church at the bottom, wherethe tour starts, and the Castle site at the top.
