Langley Chapel is a scheduled monument in care of English Heritage. It is a simple barn-like building, standing alone in a field since Langley Hall long since demolished. It dates from 1564.
The church is one of the best surviving examples of 17th century puritanism without later embellishment. There is a complete set of early seventeenth century wooden furniture and fittings and box pews for the family (draught-proof). The servants had to make do with rough benches.
Musician’s pew
Small communion table
Movable pulpit.
Sparse, cold, draughty and dignified. A glimpse into the past.
