High Cross House, 1932. Fine example of 'International Modernism'.
Commissioned in c1932 by Leonard and Dorothy Elmhirst, High Cross House provides a showcase for their collection of modern art and craft, and houses the Dartington Hall Trust Archive.

High Cross House was commissioned in c1932 by Leonard and Dorothy Elmhirst from the Swiss-American architect, William Lescaze. This International Modernist style house has been refurbished to provide a showcase for their collection of paintings and ceramics. It presents an unique example of early 20thC style and culture in Britain. The display includes paintings by Ben and Winifred Nicholson and ceramics by Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada. It is also home to the Dartington Hall Trust Archive, and researchers visit throughout the year by appointment. Catalogue of the archive available on website.

An admission charge of £3.50 normally applies, with a concessionary rate of £2.50 for students, retired people, unwaged and disabled. Children (17 & under) enter free. Group visits can be arranged by appointment outside of the dates and hours listed above.
