A display showing the history of Ilchester from pre-history to 20thC, in finds found locally, text, pictures and photographs. Ilchester was the former County Town of Somerset, held the County Court and Gaol, and was a royal borough until the 19thC. Ilchester had a marching fort, ventilation forts and was the Roman Town of Lindinae, later becoming the second largest town in 1088 and a Saxon Burgh with a mint and a medieval county town.
