There has been a church on the site since about 1090 and a few traces of that building remain. The present church was built in 15thC, and the interior was extensively altered in mid-19thC. It is still used regularly, even though it was declared redundant in 1974, for Christian worship, as well as for exhibitions, concerts, receptions and sales. It is run by a Trust, officially incorporated in 1978, whose purpose is to preserve the church and to make it available for the use of the local community and to visitors.
