The Hospital of the Blessed Trinity, Guildford was founded as a “place of rest” in 1619 by George Abbot, Archbishop of Canterbury. Now known as Abbot’s Hospital this magnificent Grade 1 listed
Jacobean almshouse continues to provide accommodation for local elderly people in a tranquil courtyard setting right in the heart of the town.
Built to the highest standard of seventeenth century craftsmanship, the building remains relatively unchanged by the passing years. Abbot’s Hospital retains its panelled Common Hall containing dining hall furniture from 1622, a Chapel with stunning stained glass windows, a medieval clock and beautifully maintained gardens.
The Hospital is open most days for viewing from the barrier from 10:00 – 17:00. Guided tours are available at 11:00 on Saturdays and Farmers’ Market Days during the summer months.
Group tours can be arranged at other times with the Master.
