Collection of over 90 birds of prey, flying demonstrations of eagles, owls, hawks, and falcons, breeding aviaries, owl wood, hawk walk and gift shop. We will let you get really close to the birds giving you a chance to appreciate their speed, grace and agility. Our aim is to show you the natural behaviour of these birds, leaving you with a lasting impression after seeing a falcon stoop, the long slow beat of an eagle, the silent flight of an owl and the quick alertness of a hawk.
LOVE IS IN THE AIR AT COTSWOLD FALCONRY!
As we approach Valentine's Day love is in the air for two Golden Eagles. Alex, a 20 year old Golden Eagle will be introduced to his new mate Xena, a 9 year eagle, on 14th February in the hope they will produce an egg. The success of the match can be judged by the public following the opening of the centre this week after its winter break.
Geoff Dalton, the owner of Cotswold Falconry Centre said "People can see a picture of the Golden Eagles on our website and can see them in person at the centre from this Saturday. In keen anticipation Alex has been building a huge nest or eyrie to impress Xena so we'll all be hoping that this Valentine's Day love really is in the air. To keep people updated we'll be posting regular updates of how their romance is blossoming on the website".
Getting Golden Eagles to successfully breed in captivity without using artificial insemination is rare and is also not without risk. Female Golden Eagles are a third bigger than males and are capable of inflicting serious injury if they don't think their partner is up to the job. A CCTV camera will also be trained on the nest so people can see the egg which will hopefully will be laid at the end of March.
