Opened by the Bishop of Ripon on 21 July 1899, St Mark's was built to a design by the architect J. Oldrid Scott which is believed to have been based on the main features of Fountains Abbey. Nearly 100 years later the church was re-consecrated by the Bishop of Ripon in 1998 following extensive re-ordering, which has attracted a number of national, regional and local awards. Points of interest include a fine alabaster reredos and rose window.
