Founded in 1109, the original hospital chapel fell into disuse in 1722 and from 1812 to 1854 was used to house the National School. In 1868 a new church was built at a cost of £1300. Designed by W.H. Crossland of Leeds and London, it is built of wrought sandstone in late pointed style with a massive stone bellcote and finial cross and contains a fine east window by E. Pickett and Co. of Leeds.
