When people talk about Leeds markets they usually mean the magnificent Kirkgate Market which began in 1822 as an open market in Vicar's Croft, and still exists today.
Leeds Kirkgate Market is one of the largest in Europe. There are 800 stalls and 100,000 people visit the market on a Saturday. It is as popular with shoppers as it ever was, and people come from as far away as Newcastle, Hull and Sheffield to do their regular shop there.
The indoor markets take place Monday to Saturday (with half day closing on Wednesdays). Outdoor market Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Farmers market (outdoor) 1st and 3rd Sunday.
