Kirby Grindalythe was the first settlement in this remote and beautiful valley to receive a church and St Andrew's retains its fine Norman tower with fragments from the Saxon church. Restored between 1872 and 1875 by G.E. Street for Sir Tatton Sykes II, the Norman chancel was rebuilt and a new nave was added in mid 13th century style. In 1893 an astonishing mosaic was installed over the whole of the internal west wall. Also worthy of note is the magnificent reredos by Redfern.
