Located on the old Roman road, St Mary's has an impressive late Anglo-Saxon tower with much of the remainder of the church dating from the Norman period. The north aisle comprises three bays, two from the 14th century and one from the 19th century. The chancel and south wall of the nave were rebuilt and the porch was added during a 19th century restoraton. Close to the deserted mediaeval village at Wharram Percy, St Mary's now houses a bell from the village church.
