Delightfully situated behind Place, home of the Spry family, looking across the creek to St Mawes, St Anthony’s unusually retains its original mediaeval cruciform plan. Despite extensive 19th-century restoration, it was described by Pevsner as ‘the best example in the county of what a parish church was like in the 12th and 13th centuries’. The Victorian wooden roofs, floor tiles and stained glass are notable, and in the north transept are impressive monuments to members of the Spry family spanning three centuries.
