Aldeburgh is a quaint seaside town, unspoilt by modern times, whose predominantly shingle beach stretches for a considerable distance and shelves quite steeply to the sea.
There are also sandy areas of the beach which are particularly exposed at low tide. A wide open promenade runs alongside, at beach level, passing many of Aldenburgh;s distinctive attractions - The Moot hall, lookout towers, lifeboat station etc, - offering extensive views up the coastline to Thorpeness and down to Orford Ness. Beach onlookers can also watch while the fishermen still pull up their boats onto the shingle and sell their catch from nearby huts.
