Popular surfing and bodyboarding beach, with a surf school located on the beach in main season. Also popular with families, the beach is north facing and overlooked by the Tate Gallery. Wide expanse of soft golden sand, the beach is also the recipient of a Blue Flag and a Seaside Award for 2006. The Blue Flag works towards sustainable development at beaches/marinas through strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, and safety and other services.
Professional lifeguards patrol the beach from May to September.

Parking - the car parks in St Ives get full very early in main season, and the big car park at the top of town can bit a hike back up. Why not try parking at St Erth or Lelant Saltings and enjoy the scenic branch line into the heart of the town.
