The Steam Packet Inn, an extremely attractive and welcoming hostelry, is situated in Totnes, on the banks of the River Dart. Our picture sign and logo (by West Country artist Edward Boyle) depicts the 'Amelia', a regular steam packet to this inn, in the mid-nineteenth century. The 'Amelia' was one of three coastal steam packet ships that called here, transporting passengers, parcels and mail from London to Portsmouth, Totnes and Devonport, finally connecting with the trans-Atlantic packets at Falmouth.

With the development of better railways and roads the steam packet service became redundant. However, this fine old inn survives and we are proud to continue the high standards for which the Steam Packet Inn was renowned, and invite you to sample our real ales, wines and spirits, coupled with the very best of 'British Inn Keeping'.

Eating at the Steam Packet Inn is a visual and culinary experience not to be missed. Relax and enjoy the view of myriad wildlife that inhabits the banks and waters of the River Dart, whilst enjoying our fine cuisine.

The menus are varied and tempting to the extreme! Fresh, locally caught fish features daily. The poultry and meat menu varies according to the seasons, as does all the local fresh produce.

The Steam Packet also offers very comfortable accommodation. Our rooms are en suite with colour television and courtesy trays. The price includes a full English breakfast. We offer a double room and a family room with views over the river, and also a twin room and a single room.

The Steam Packet is the ideal location for a holiday with its close proximity to the English Riviera. The beautiful national park of Dartmoor is within easy reach, as is the historical city of Exeter or the bustling city of Plymouth, birthplace of the Pilgrim Fathers. Alternatively, Dartmouth is just a scenic boat ride away.
