The unusually named Bog Centre, is the old school house and one of last remaining buildings from The Bog Village, demolished in 1972. The Centre is now used as a local visitor facility in the heart of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and provides a wealth of information about its mining history, its people, and the current work to restore the surrounding landscape.

The Centre is staffed by a team of volunteers, who have set themselves up as the Bog Centre Volunteer Group. Members of the group are from the local community and they give a warm welcome to visitors, providing tea and home made cakes as well as selling locally produced crafts.

Formerly a lead mine working area, for several centuries the village had a large community to support the industry. Today the former cowhouse is the only original building remaining intact. However, The Bog Centre with its old school interior and gas lighting still retains that air and charm of a bygone age, that local residents and visitors welcome and its unique character has become part of the visitor experience.

Facilities: Visitor Centre, Toilets, Car parking. - The visitor centre is open every Wednesday through to Sunday and every day during school holidays and bank holidays.

Recreational Activities: There are 2 circular walks from the centre which are Mucklewick Walk & Flenny Bank Walk. Select the link to our circular routes page for more information on these and other short circular walks.
