By Day: The Museum of Whitchcraft & Wizardology
Where every hour is the witching hour but you don't need to be a card-carrying witch to join in the fun.
Enchanting and magical museum in one of Stratford's oldest buildings. Three floors of spooky room settings including England's only fully functional Witches' Apothecary and the Great Hall where you can take part in your very own "Sorting Ceremony" to discover which house you would be in if you were invited to Magic School…
The museum also explores the Stratford Witchcraft Murders of 1875 and 1945 as well as charting the history of the Bombay family - one of England's most eccentric families - that did more than just dabble in the dark arts!
Will you be able to face your fears in the Victorian Spirit Cabinet, walk through the Haunted Toy Shoppe or venture into the Witches' Apothecary? There are reports of over 40 separate and identified spirits and ghosts roaming the halls and stairs of this creaky old building and who knows who, or what, you might meet in the hallways.
Wait! Did that mannequin actually move - or was it just a trick of the light? Find out, if you think you're brave enough……
The Creaky Cauldron is open to restless souls every day apart from Christmas Day and New Years Day from 10.00am until 5.00pm.
The Magic Spellbox Company
The Creaky Cauldron is also home to the world's oldest makers of magical giftware (spells, potions and wands to the uninitiated!). Spells are simply another form of ritual or focused meditation. Sold in kits, the Creaky Cauldron's incantations come with everything you need to channel some positive energy into your existence. Spells can be all-purpose or designed to promote specific outcomes such as creative genius, safe travel or study stamina. And if your goddess juices are running a little low, there are even spells to restore your mojo!
So, if the hum-drum of life has been getting you down, maybe it's time to re-connect with your inner spirituality and weave a little magic into your day. And as for the quirky decor, the aim was to instil the feeling of stepping into the private space of a witch's house. Despite the ornate shelving, the black chandeliers and velvet curtains draped over the windows, it doesn't send shivers down your spine but invokes a strange sense of familiarity.
By Night: The Stratford Ripper Experience
A series of terrifying events took place in the late 1700's in and around the infamous White Lion Inn. Join us as we recreate those events in the only remaining part of the Inn and introduce you to the chilling world of the Stratford Ripper. You will need to keep your wits about you as you start to question your senses (and even your sanity) as the building's dreadful secrets begin to unfold before your eyes.....
Combining the heady and disorientating atmosphere of a scare attraction with the disorientating layout of a genuinely haunted building that is over 450 years old - the Stratford Ripper Experience is certainly not for the faint hearted! We urge you to not try to enter any doors that might be locked and always remain in the lighted passageways with your guide as some of the Inn's residents have a tendency to stay with you long after you have visited them -- and we don't want to be responsible for any that might follow you home!
Guided Ripper Tours by candlelight take place every night at 7.30pm and 8.30pm - booking essential.
Overnight Ghost Hunts take place every Saturday night from 9.30pm - booking essential
Ghost Walk of Stratford takes place every night at 9.00pm - booking essential
