Twelve-acres of wild Victorian gardens nestled in the Helford Valley, Carwinion is home to one of the most spectacular national collections of bamboo in the country.

Discover the charms of this historical garden that was created around the same time that the 18th Century house was developed. The Rogers family collaborated with the Fox's of Glendurgan to bring in rare plants, including the Dicksonia Antartica and Cryptomaria Japonica that are growing here today.

Anthony Rogers has spent 30 years restoring and replanting Carwinion and the garden has become a famed horticultural hotspot becuase of its 140-plus varieties of bamboo attracting garden-enthusiasts from all over the world. But there's much more besides bamboo; Carwinion is a wild and untamed spring garden prolific with wild flowers, primroses and blue bells and let the colourful camellias, hydrangeas, ferns and wild flowers flood your senses of sight and smell. In the summer explore the banks of the ponds, streams and enormous groves of gunnera.

Bring your four-legged companions to explore this dog friendly plot, and take a stroll up the sides of the valley that are brimming with large rhododendrons, palms and a wildly exotic atmosphere. There are tree ferns native of Australia and New Zealand, with the most concentrate fern and hellebore garden sprouting from an old quarry. Veer over to the west side and you'll discover the beautifully manicured Japanese Garden crammed with everything Japonica, and you might even find the 'secret' garden where you can escape, rewind and relax.

From Easter to Steptember Morning Coffee and Afternoon Tea is served, and you can nip into the nursery to pick up some unusual plants to take home and nurture your own piece of paradise.
