Our Devon farm offers a peaceful haven for self catering summer family holidays and off-season breaks. Whether you want a base in North Devon, love nature, want to walk with your dog, cycle the glorious Devon countryside, or just relax, our self catering accommodation is for you.
Choose from one of three well-appointed eco-lodges set amongst trees, or Otter cottage, a converted stone barn with views over our lakes and to Dartmoor.
You'll enjoy privacy, comfort and beautiful surroundings. Guests can explore our own nature reserve, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) by Natural England.
Dogs are welcome. You can stroll to the local farm shop, selling organic produce, ice creams etc, (or order ahead) and in Winkleigh village, just 1.5 miles away, is an excellent family- and dog-friendly pub as well as a general store and post office. If you don't want to drive, we can collect you from Eggesford Station, and help you hire or just borrow bikes.
Walking, cycling, fishing, good food - Devon has it all. We are in the heart of Devon with good access to Dartmoor to the south, and the attractions of North Devon.
Take a short break in Devon away from the crowds! Outside the peak season you can arrive anytime Friday and leave at your leisure on Sunday. Our self catering cottage and lodges are fabulously cosy and in the heart of glorious Devon countryside.
Want a romatic break? Curl up infront of the woodburner in Otter Cottage.
Just want to put your feet up? Our lodges are designed for Scandinavian winters - you're snug and warm behind their big picture windows.
You can borrow a free farm bike for local rides, to go to the farmshop, to the start of local walks etc. We've rescued these from the council tip, cleaned them up, checked them over, and made them roadworthy. We have a good handful now, including a couple of kids bikes, and are still expanding the fleet. But please bear in mind, we don't supply helmets, lights, pumps or heavy duty locks.
We don't charge for these bikes, and it's great to see people enjoying using them.
Fishing holidays on Wheatland Farm are popular, with a good carp lake on site for guests. Tench, roach and rudd are also caught here. Day tickets are £5 per head and we offer free fishing to the under 12's on our farm pond.
We take wildlife conservation seriously across the farm, encouraging barn owls, swallows, deer, foxes, badgers, otters, hedgerow birds and wildflowers around the holiday cottage and lodges.
We're also lucky enough to have a 7-acre private nature reserve, which visiting wildlife lovers can enjoy and explore. Natural England (the government agency responsible for conserving the UK's wildlife) calls Popehouse Moor 'one of the best examples of the Culm grasslands of north Devon and north-east Cornwall' and has designated it a Site of Special Scientific Interest, marking it out as amongst the country's very best wildlife and geological sites.
