William Fenney, came to Catcliffe to start his own works.Catcliffe was an ideal choice as William Fenney was able to ferry his goods by barge along the River Rother, also to take advantage of the newly opened canal system along the River Don. The glass works had two cones one which still stands today. The Cone is a Grade II Listed building and is one of only four that has survived out of more than 100 constructed in Britain during the 18th Century.
