Derbyshire has one of the richest industrial heritages in the world and is acknowledged as the 'cradle of the Industrial Revolution'. The Derwent Valley's designation as The National Heritage Corridor serves to further acknowledge its status as a unique and valuable location.
There are opportunities to walk parts of the Heritage Way between the Derwent Dams in the north and elvaston castle to the south of Derby. Much of the route is suitable for cyclists, and is being cosidered for inclusion in the National Cycle Route Network. Along the way there are numerous places to stop for refreshment, entertainment and information.
