Early 19th century 'Ranter' Chapel giving a taste of working class religion. Museum, shop, video, children's costumes and games, refreshments.

The museum occupies the former Sunday School room, built in 1914 to the memory of Hugh Bourne, who started many Sunday Schools and whose life-long concern was to bring children to God. Outside, on the front wall, a series of foundations stones commemorate the major contributors. The collection of books, memorabilia and artefacts from the early days of the denomination complements the chapel in portraying this new force in English religious life.

At Englesea Brook you can share in the experience of a working-class Sunday School founder by Hugh Bourne. In an extended role-play children can adopt Victorian names and dress in period costumes (provided). They can practice reading in unison and writing on slates. They learn about Victorian money and simple science.
