John and Gerry would like to welcome you to 'The Retreat'. Our cosy, comfortable ground floor flat is just for two. It is well equipped and has everything you need to enjoy a short winter break or a longer summer holiday. Arrive by train, and we will gladly collect you from the station. Even if you drive here you may choose to give the car a rest. With the shuttle bus for local travel and the railway station nearby, it is easy to get about.

From 'The Retreat' it is a gentle stroll to the town centre or a more vigorous walk directly up onto the beautiful Long Mynd or to the hill fort atop of Caer Caradoc. There are many footpaths and bridleways to explore and delightful views to discover. The town has a good selection of shops and offers a choice of places to eat and drink. Nearby village pubs delight the visitor with their welcoming atmosphere, real ales and delicious menus.

'The Retreat' is the converted lower floor of our Edwardian detached house, and is designed for two people. It is centrally heated throughout and has additional electric heating in the sitting area and shower room. The cosy sitting room/dining area adjoins the sleeping area but is separated from it by a large chimney breast. The large oak lintels add character and are probably from a barn that originally stood on the site. There is radio and TV plus a selection of games and puzzles for evening relaxation. In the sleeping area you will find comfortable twin beds, for which linen and duvets are provided. The separate kitchen is well equipped and has an electric cooker, fridge and microwave oven. There is a small shower room that also houses the WC and a washbasin. A supply of good quality towels is provided. Guests are very welcome to use our garden and there is a secluded comer where you can sit and read or dine alfresco. For safety and comfort of all our guests, we ask that guests do not smoke in 'The Retreat'. Also, we regret that we are unable to accommodate pets.

Why choose The Retreat? Whenever possible, we try to make arrangements for guests with special requirements. However, the nature of the site and building means that 'The Retreat' is unsuitable for wheelchair users. Access from the roadway involves descending some outside steps. These have been rebuilt to modern accessibility standards, including hand railing, to assist guests who have restricted mobility, and at night this access route is automatically lit. We are inspected annually, and 'The Retreat' has been awarded a Three Star rating under theVisitBritain Quality Assurance Scheme. This is your guarantee of consistent quality. We believe that 'The Retreat' offers excellent value, whether for a short break or a longer stay. Our tariff includes the supply of electricity and heating. Provision of linen and towels is also included in the price.

We aim to provide you with a warm welcome, and try to ensure that your holiday at The Retreat exceeds your expectations. We are delighted to have many guests who have returned time after time. Here are some comments written by guests last year.
