Housed in an old church the museum shows a glimpse of every day life at the former Glenside Hospital. Artefacts include strait-jackets, padded cells and post-mortem equipment. Also everyday items from the past including scales, irons, telephones and church artefacts. Some of the curios date back to the 1850s when the hospital was known as Bristol Lunatic Asylum.
The museum has a wide range of paraphernalia and images from the life of Glenside and of the local Learning Disability Hospitals of the Stoke Park Group and the Burden Neurological Institution.
The Chancel is used for temporary exhibitions and for the paintings of Dennis Reed, an accomplished artist who painted life in Glenside from the inside, in the 1950's. We charge no entrance fee but depend on donations to stay open and welcome volunteers
