The Railway is a heritage line approx 1 1/2 miles long providing a round trip of approx 3 miles alongside the Brampton Valley Way Footpath. The 30's to 50's coaches are normally steam hauled although preserved diesels may be used at certain times.

The Railway preserves not only the rolling stock but the working and cultural traditions of British Railway history. There is a museum and the most complete semaphore signalling system of any preserved railway. Restoration and maintenance work may be observed at first hand. The Railway also forms a sanctuary for wildlife, and many varieties of birds breed and may be observed at the site.
