As dusk creeps in on a dull wet September day just 100 years ago, the afternoon rain drips from overhanging shrubs lining Union Lane, a lone vagrant drags his weary feet along the narrow footpath towards a night of cruel comfort. Six o’clock approaches he knows he is not alone, other ne’er do wells hope for a night at the Guildford Spike, salt stinging his eyes, he plods wearily on, he deserves no reward for his idleness. Come and witness the life of an Edwardian vagrant.
