The Anchor Inn was taken over by Gavin and Karen Reay in 2007 and has quickly gained a reputation for its warm welcome, fine food, character and charm. With the recent addition of luxury bed and breakfast accommodation, this traditional pub has lots of offer visitors of all ages.
This splendid Inn and acclaimed restaurant is the perfect place to stay when visiting the North East. It offers two well-stocked bars along with traditional inn style dining. Located in the village of Whittonstall, bordering the counties of Northumberland and Durham, it’s the perfect base to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside.

The recently opened bed and breakfast accommodation is chic and contemporary. All rooms at the Anchor Inn have been individually furnished to the highest of standards and feature super king size beds)which can be used for double or twin occupancy), wall mounted flat screen TVs, WiFi, freeview TV, luxury linens, black out blinds, robes, hospitality trays with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fresh milk and mineral water, complimentary toiletries, hair dryers, hair straighteners, alarm clocks, luggage racks and fabulously, fluffy bath sheets.
An iron/ironing board is available on request. All of the Inn’s linens are suitable for those with allergies, also allergy free duvets and pillows are available (please request when booking).

The Anchor Inn breakfast is taken in the main bar area, daily from 9a.m. – 11 a.m. For those who prefer to eat earlier, then please let us know and we will accommodate you where possible. Those guests wishing to select the ‘early’ option must inform reception on booking.

Please note, the Anchor Inn is unable to accommodate pets.

The potential for outdoor pursuits is endless with great opportunities for walking, cycling, sailing, fishing and horse riding all on the doorstep. For golf lovers, the Inn is surrounded by prestigious golf courses such as Slaley Hall (approximately 4 miles away), Matfen and Close House. Dining at the Anchor Inn is an experience not to be missed – there is something for everyone on the extensive menu. You can choose from old favourites to dishes with a contemporary twist – with locally sourced ingredients, each meal has been individually designed and originally named for customers to enjoy.

The menu offers an excellent choice of starters, mains and desserts. The starters are truly original – not to be missed, the meats are deliciously tender, the vegetarian meals imaginative and there are daily fish specials, also an array of desserts to tempt even those who don’t have a sweet tooth! Special dietary requirements are catered for too.

The bar and main restaurant area is large and spacious featuring traditional beams, natural stone walls and log burning stove.
