Temple Newsam is one of the most admired historic houses in the North of England. Famous as the birthplace of Lord Darnley, infamous husband of Mary Queen of Scots, Temple Newsam is a truly impressive country house.
Temple Newsam is home to spectacular collections of paintings, furniture, silver, Leeds pottery, ceramics, textiles and wallpapers. The House is designated as a museum with outstanding collections. The House presents a regular programme of exhibitions highlighting the rich collections of fine and decorative arts which adorn the three stories of the Tudor-Jacobean mansion. Events include weekly special tours, 'Hidden Temple Newsam' a tour of cellars, underground passages and servant quarters and children's activities.
The House is set witin 1500 acres of beautiful parkland landscaped by the famous 'Capability Brown' in the 18th century. The Horm Farm has over 400 pigs, cattle, sheep, goats and poultry. Visitors can explore life on the home farm during feeding times and taking part in traditional craft making demonstrations.
