Cobham Hall dates from 1587 and is the former home of the Earls of Darnley, the most famous of whom was the Honourable Ivor Bligh, 8th Earl, who captained the England cricket team in Australia in 1883. Now a leading independent boarding and day girls' school, the estate contains work by Inigo Jones, Wyatt and the Adam brothers and the Gilt Hall was decorated by John Webb. It stands in 150 acres of landscape gardens, designed by Humphry Repton.
