Commanding the shortest sea crossing between England and the continent, Dover Castle boasts a long and immensely eventful history. Its spectacular site above the famous white cliffs was originally an Iron Age fort, and still houses a Roman lighthouse, one of the best-preseved in Europe. The Anglo-Saxon church beside it was once part of a Saxon fortified settlement.

Today you can tour the Secret Wartime Tunnels and experience life as it was lived by the 700 personnel based here in the worst days of WWll. You can see the Command Centre where Sir Winston Churchill viewed the Battle of Britain, and relive the drama as a surgeon struggles to save the life of an injured pilot in the underground hospital.

Experience an exciting new development at Dover Castle with the re-presentation of Henry ll's keep, or Great Tower, as it appeared when newly built during the 1180s. Become a part of Henry ll's court as you tour the recreated 12th Century rooms, and learn about the Great Tower through the voices of contemporary characters associated with the building. Be immersed in the atmosphere of medieval court life as you explore the chambers, kitchens and armory, much as they were 800 years ago.

Gain a fascinating insight into areas of the castle both above and below ground! Take the opportunity to walk the defences and venture underground into the Medieval Underground Works.

Please note that tours are weather-dependent: not all tours will operate everyday. To avoid disappointment, please telephone the castle before arrival to check which tours are operating.

Take time in the fascinating Princess of Wales' Royal Regiment Museum.

Relax in a choice of cafe and restaurants and browse for unusual gifts in our two themed shops.
