A 13thC tower which was once used as part of the town's defences, then a dwelling, a jail and is now a local museum. A model shows the development of the coast and items about smuggling and law enforcement can also be seen. The East Street site depicts Rye's history through prints, paintings, uniforms, costumes, toys and a Georgian fire engine. There is a display of pottery made in Rye and an exhibition on Rye between the wars, the changes to the coastline over the last 1,000 years, and also Rye's ship building and fishing industry from the late C19th.
