Perched at the head of the Fal Estuary, Trelissick boasts jaw-dropping views and a huge array of plant species.
Quite literally at the water's edge, you can catch the ferry from Truro, Falmouth or the Roseland Peninsula to land at this waterside garden and exotic wonderland. At its heart, the 40-acre garden itself is a year-round display of colourful blooms, noted for its camellias, rhododendrons and a collection of photinia and azaleas.
But its not just the tranquil gardens and tender species that set Trelissick apart from the rest; nestled in no less than 375-acres of parkland and woodland, this is most definitely one of the finest gardens for walkers. Extensive trails meander through the woodland, traverse the parkland and follow the riverside. On leaving the gardens and crossing the sweeping green parkland towards the Fal Estuary, the staggering views and lush terrain serve-up some of the best walking country on the south coast. Even within the garden's grounds, a little exploration under the canopies of oak, beech and conifers will unveil hidden treasures such as the log summerhouse, a water tower and a footbridge.
Although the house is not open, its grand architecture sits magnificently in its surroundings and you can check out the art and craft gallery if you want to look around indoors. The facilities at Trelissick are fantastic, making it a very family friendly day out in the great outdoors. There's plenty of room to let the kids run wild, and you can lead their imaginations across the globe as you discover foreign trees and shrubs collected on worldwide wanders.
There is also a specialist plant shop, restaurant and café on-site, so you can fill hungry bellies and indulge in some green-gifts for your garden at home.
Dogs are allowed in the woodland area only.
