Highcliffe Castle, grade 1 listed cliff top castle built by Lord Stuart de Rothesay between 1831 and 1835 became derelict in the late 1960’s following two fires. In 1991 an ongoing repair programme supported by English Heritage and Heritage Lottery Fund began. Although no longer with its rich interiors Highcliffe Castle now houses a visitor centre, where you can find out about the castle’s history and see a range of changing exhibitions. After browsing in the fascinating gift shop, you can relax with a cream tea or maybe a stroll through the grounds, which include woodland walks and access to the beach. The castle is also licensed for civil ceremonies and can seat up to 100 guests. Throughout the year Highcliffe Castle hosts many events both indoors and out and a lecture series in the spring and autumn. A full programme of activity is available on request.
