Horse racing in Ripon, North Yorkshire takes place at what is affectionately termed Yorkshire's Garden Racecourse. As you can imagine, it's a beautiful spot, in a diminutive market town whose medieval cathedral makes it one of the oldest cities in England.
There has been racing in Ripon for around 300 years, and the 2010 season looks like being one of the best, with more than £850,000 in prize money set to attract some of the best horse racing talent in the country, man and beast.
You'll find all the action is situated close to the A1, 11 miles north of Harrogate.
Calendar - Ripon offers 15 meetings for you to be a part of in the 2010 season, along with several special events, featuring top runners and riders. The Garden Racecourse will host flat racing gatherings from 15th April to 31st August. The year's top feature race will be the Great St Wilfred Handicap on 14th August. The great year in store also includes three evening race meetings and a Sunday meeting, with the elegant popular Ladies Day taking place on 17th June.
